After welcoming my daughter, I both missed the studio and was daunted by the prospect of getting back into it. To ease back into painting, I brought a few small canvases home, took them outside and gave myself pressure free time to just enjoy the process. Camellia Study No. 2 is one of those first pieces—painted entirely outdoors in late winter and early spring, when the camellias in our backyard were in full bloom.
This original canvas carries the immediacy of being painted from life without restraint or expectation: loose gestural brushstrokes, beautiful organic drips, and the honest response of seeing and painting in the moment. More than a study of winter florals, for me, this painting holds the joy of rediscovery—finding rhythm and balance in an entirely new season of life through paint and nature.
At once intimate and vibrant, Camellia Study No. 1 is perfect for collectors who value botanical artwork that feels fresh, personal, and alive with the act of creation.
